Lions U16 Boys suffer first defeat of the season in the North Munster League

Limerick Lions U16 Boys faced local rivals Limerick Celtics on Tuesday night (04/04/17) in the North Munster League. The Lions boys were sitting pretty on the top of the North Munster League Table heading into this game.

The young Lions men had beaten the Celtics lads on three occasions already this season, so this game was just a formality………… the Celtics lads certainly didn’t see it that way!!!

The Lions boys started the game very sluggishly and struggled to put the ball through the hoop. On the other hand, the Celtics boys came out blazing and hardly missed a shot all night! The Lions boys just didn’t seem comfortable on the floor and their normal team chemistry just wasn’t there.

The score at half-time reflected the Lions lethargic play with them trailing on a score line of 34 – 26. The second half was no different – the Celtics boys continued to score at will against a very poor defensive display by the Lions boys. And to add to the boy’s woes, they continued to struggle on the offensive end also.

All in all, it was a very disappointing performance by the Lions boys, as they are so much better than the way they played in this game - but there’s no doubt that they’ll learn from their mistakes and still have the following big games to look forward to:

  • The Cork Top Four Play-offs
  • The All Ireland Club Championships
  • The North Munster Cup Final

Final score – Limerick Lions 56 – Limerick Celtics 73.

Top scorers for Lions were Andrew McMahon with 22 points and Nathan Moore with 20 points.

Under 16's Lions go down………but not without a fight!!!

Under 16's Lions go down………but not without a fight!!! On Saturday 13th February, Limerick Lions U16 boys played Ballincollig in a Cork Division A League Game. This game was played at St. Clements College – home to Lions. Lions would face this Ballincollig side without their starting point guard Nathan Moore who was recovering from a minor injury. Joey Byrne stepped into the point guard position and played some great basketball. The Lions boys have been continually improving this season and this was obvious with a much improved performance since they last played this Ballincollig side...
