Nathan Moore Limerick Junior Sports Star December 2016

Limerick Lions wish to give a huge congratulations to their U16 player Nathan Moore who recently received the “Limerick Junior Sports Star” for the month of December 2016.

This award comes after an exceptional month of basketball for the Lions and Irish International underage player. Nathan kicked off the month of December with a visit to Minsk in Belarus to play against some of the power houses of European Basketball. Nathan held his own against some of the top talent from Poland, Lithuania and Belarus during the Irish U16 squad’s preparations for the European Championships later this year.

Then it was back home to face back-to-back games against the relentless and talented Ballincollig boys. The Lions boys split the spoils with the Ballincollig lads winning by just 4 points in Ballincollig and losing by a tantalising 2 points at home. Nathan was on fire in both games knocking down 36 points and 38 points respectively.

The next stop for Nathan and his Lions team-mates was a Tuesday night date with St. Brendan’s of Tralee down in the Parochial Hall in Cork. Where else would a youngster want to be on a Tuesday night, but in the U16 Cork Cup semi-final in one of the most famous basketball halls in the Country!!! This was certainly a game of many lead changes, but it all came down to the last play of the game……….Both teams tied 49-49…….. 5 seconds left on the clock…….Lions have a time-out…….Inbounds play to get Nathan the ball……..Ball released with 2 seconds on the clock………Swish…….. Lions heading to the Cork Cup Final and Nathan heading for a well-deserved Christmas break.

Nathan received his award at the ceremony held in the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa on Friday 27th January. He also had the honour of meeting Football Legend Brian Kerr who was the guest speaker on the day. Thanks to the Radisson Blu Hotel, the Limerick Leader and Keanes Jewellers for the excellent event.

Limerick Lions would also like to congratulate all the other monthly winners and most especially Conor Boylan who won the Junior Sports Star of the Year.

Under 16's Lions go down………but not without a fight!!!

Under 16's Lions go down………but not without a fight!!! On Saturday 13th February, Limerick Lions U16 boys played Ballincollig in a Cork Division A League Game. This game was played at St. Clements College – home to Lions. Lions would face this Ballincollig side without their starting point guard Nathan Moore who was recovering from a minor injury. Joey Byrne stepped into the point guard position and played some great basketball. The Lions boys have been continually improving this season and this was obvious with a much improved performance since they last played this Ballincollig side...
