Lions U18 Impress in National Cup

Lions interest in this year’s competition ended last weekend after a brave effort in Dublin. Having had to go to the heart of Kerry to take care of St Paul’s Killarney in an earlier round we were drawn in a tough group where we knew we would have to get past 1 of the Cork powerhouses to advance to the Qtr final. We lost to a very strong Fr Matthews team in our opening game which made it a loser go home game against Galway’s Titans. A fantastic 89 point performance which saw us record the highest score of all 36 National cup games last weekend gave us victory and saw us through to a Sunday decider against Neptune. Alas Neptune took the honors on the day and joined Fr Matthews in the Qtr finals. Diarmuid O Shea’s 22.3 weekend average saw him finish 4th overall in individual points scoring.  Well done to all who took part along with coaches Seamus O' Connell and Vinny Marrinan.

Lions U18 Impressive Away Win over Lakers in Cork League

U18 Cork League: Limerick Lakers 34    Limerick Lions 61   (02/11/2013)

Another great win by Lions U18 today away to Lakers in the Cork League by an impressive 61 to 34. The first half was pretty tight with the Lions up by just 5 at the half. However solid defence and clinical offence saw the Lions boys pull away in the second half to win very comfortably in the end. Luke Ryan ran the offence brilliantly from the point and contributed well also on the score-board. Diarmuid O'Shea was excellent in both defence and offence with Shane MacNamara, David O'Connell and Joe Dudley also making vital contributions and Corey Flynn was dynamic as ever. Aaron Madden came off the bench to grab a few lovely buckets with Matthew Sutton also contributing well late on.

Well done to coaches Seamus O'Connell and Vinny Marrinan also on a great performance and the many hours of hard work done with this squad seems to be bearing fruit. Hopefully this good form can be brought into the National Cup in Dublin next weekend.

Top scorers: Diarmuid O'Shea 18, Luke Ryan 10, David O'Connell 8.

Lions squad: Diarmuid O'Shea, Luke Ryan, David O'Connell, Shane McNamara, Joe Dudley, Corey Flynn, Aaron Madden, Matthew Sutton, Kwaku Appiah.
