Limerick Lions basketball club report - 20th January 2013

Lions juvenile teams travelled to Neptune stadium in Cork last Friday night for Cork league games. Harry Coyne's U14's had a great win v Neptune B with super performances from Neville O' Sullivan, Cameron Di Benedetto, Jack Coyne, Jazz Pendejito and Iain Campbell. Lions U-16 and U-18 teams put in good performances while losing to strong Neptune sides. Adam Barry, Matthew Sutton and Vullnet Halimi were excellent for Lions U-16 while Joe Dudley, Darragh O'Connor, David O'Connell and Diarmuid O'Shea impressed for Lions U-18. On Sunday it was the turn of Trevor Moore's U-12 side and they had a comfortable victory away to Lakers in the North Munster league with impressive displays from Nathan Moore, Dylan Sutton, Joey Byrne and Ronan Cregan. Lions U-18's also played Lakers in the North Munster league on Sunday and went down by 10 in a game which was close throughout with the Lions boys just fading in the final quarter. Luke Ryan, Joe Dudley and David O'Connell were best for Lions.

 

Limerick Lions basketball club report - 13th January 2013

Lions senior team continued their winning record into 2013 with a hard-fought victory away to Newcastlewest in the North Munster league. Lionscame out on top by 10 points in a physical encounter against the Lithuanian team based in Newcastlewest. Rando Kozlov was on fire with 7 three-pointers and Raido Koiv, Diarmuid O'Donovan, Paul Horkan and Damian Serwatka also made big contributions to this important win for Dave Barry's team.

In juvenile action Harry Coyne's U-14 team continued their great form in the Cork league with victory away to Ballincollig last Saturday. Jack Coyne, Neville O'Sullivan, Mark McGarry and Cameron Di Benedetto impressed for Lions. An under-strength Lions U-16 team lost to Ballincollig in a battling performance in which Cian Collins, Conor Cullen and Greg O' Callaghan played well for Lions.

   

Limerick Lions basketball club report - 16th December 2012

The Lions finished the calendar year with some great performances and wins over the last week. Dave Barry's senior team secured a crucial win in a very tight game away to Newport Glen Cruisers to maintain their perfect record this season. Lions point-guard Raido Koiv was the outstanding player in this game and there were strong performances also from Diarmuid O'Donovan, Rando Kozlov and Charlie Flynn. Last Sunday was a busy day for Lions juvenile teams with Brendan Kelly's U-8's and U-10's first up with games against Limerick Lakers. Fantastic work has been done by the U-8/U-10 coaching team with these young players and the results were clear for all to see. There were some very promising young players on show such as Reece Barry, Adam McNamara, AJ Ryan-Walsh & Finn Martin for U-10's and Ryan Briganti, Adam Lengen, Oscar Martin and Damir Riyatov for the U8’s. Next up was Trevor Moore's U-12's who had an impressive win over Limerick Lakers in the North Munster league. The shooting performance of young Dylan Sutton was the highlight of this game. This was followed up by hard-fought victories in two very close and exciting Cork League games by Harry Coyne's U-14's over Neptune B and by Diarmuid O'Donovan's U-16's over Carraig Na BhFear. Both coaches will be happy with a winning end to the year.

 

Limerick Lions basketball club report - 9th December 2012

Limerick Lions U-12's had a very busy weekend of games. On Saturday they competed in the Cork open tournament where they encountered some very tough opposition in Moycullen, Father Matthews and Blue Demons and suffered their first defeats of the season. On Sunday Trevor Moore's boys faced Limerick Celtics in the North Munster league and, in a dramatic finish, had a shot from Nathan Moore rim out on the buzzer to lose by a single point. As well as the very impressive Nathan Moore, there were fine performances also from Dylan Sutton, Scott Bridges, Joey O'Brien and Andrew McMahon. In other action on Sunday, Lions U-14 A team beat Celtics B while Lions U-14 B team went down to Celtics A.

Any last minute takers for Limerick Lions End-of-Season Tour - we have 3 places still available on the bus !

The trip is from Friday 21st June to Monday 24th June and is open to all U-14, U-16 and U-18 players and parents.

Friendly matches have been arranged against Wales national development squads on the Saturday.

The trip will also include a visit to Oakwood Amusement Park ( www.oakwoodthemepark.co.uk ) on the Sunday and there will be other fun activities during the weekend.

Limerick Lions basketball club report - 2nd December 2012

Limerick Lions seniors (in picture), coached by Dave Barry, maintained their perfect winning record this season with a 70 to 50 points win over Litpol in the North Munster league last Sunday in St Clements college. The team of Russian nationals certainly put it up to Lions and led for much of the first half. However, once Lions ace shooters Diarmuid "Dod" O' Donovan and Rando Kozlov found their range, there was only going to be one winner. O' Donovan top-scored with 23 points with Kozlov notching 18 and there were fine performances also from Aaron Lynch, Matthew Collins and "Bono" Kavanagh. In other action last weekend Harry Coyne's U-14 team had two good displays with a narrow loss to Blue Demons in the Cork cup on Friday and bouncing back with a comfortable win over Limerick Lakers on Sunday. Lions U-14 B team which is coached by Bono Kavanagh and Cian McDonnell also put in a good performance against Lakers. Best for Lions U-14's were Jazz Pendejito, Ben Murphy, Iain Campbell and Nathan Moore. Lions U-16's had a comfortable win over Lakers with Adam Barry notching up a very impressive 30 points. Lions U-18's went down by 10 to Lakers in an entertaining game with decent performances from David O'Connell, Darragh O'Connor and Luke Ryan.
