The SuperLeague Management Board have announced that the joint application of Limerick Lions and UL/Aughinish have been successful in their bid to host the 2008 League finals which will take place on the weekend of March 29/30. It’s the second successive year the finals have been held in the UL Arena.
Limerick Lions PRO John King said: ”the awarding of the finals for the second year running is recognition of the high level of satisfaction from last year’s event. Some minor tweaking will be done to ensure repeated success again this year. We have a great relationship with UL/Aughinish and the University of Limerick Arena management and staff and the event is an example of how co operation between various parties and the availability of top class facilities can make things happen.” |

Limerick Lions have two home games this weekend at the UL Sports Arena starting on Saturday night 1st March next. At 7.30 that evening UCD Marion are the visitors and the following day, Sunday 2nd March, Tralee Tigers come to Limerick for a 3.30pm game. This will be a very competitive double header for Limerick and they will be looking to do well in both games. Limerick’s coach Matt Hall says "We have had a frustrating season where we are losing games in the last minute or so. The team is playing well for long stretches in games yet at vital times such as coming down that last minute stretch we are making mistakes that is costing us the game. The contribution of the players has been steady all year and I am pleased with the development of our key Irish players. Limerick are looking to the future and building for this yet we need to win games this year as well. This weekend we need to learn from recent games where basic finishing of lay-ups left us too much to do in the games’ final minutes. We must improve our concentration and execution and if we do we can win more games."

Limerick Lions travel up to Belfast for a crunch Nivea for Men Super League game against UUJ at the Jordanstown complex at 7pm on Saturday 16th Feb. UUJ are new to the Superleague this season but have been putting better and better performances together lately including a great win against Tralee Tigers down in Tralee. Limerick realise they are up against it and it will take a fully committed 44 minutes to be in with a chance of getting a result in Belfast. Lions coach Matt Hall says "UUJ will be a very difficult game for us. The season has been difficult all the way and we are going out in every game to improve our performances. We have won 2 of our last 3 games, both close games where the lads have performed well coming down the stretch. I was very pleased with our Irish players in the last few games as they are competing for boards at both ends, and hitting some big shots. On Saturday we will need a massive team performance to stay with UUJ, and if we can do that, and be there or thereabouts in the last 2 minutes, then we stand a chance of getting a win. Anything less and we have no chance, so all week at training I will be chasing the lads for a committed team performance up in Belfast". |

Limerick Lions men’s basketball travel to Killarney to take on Mustang St Paul’s in the Nivea for men Super league. Limerick have not had a consistent run in the league this season, and came off second best last weekend against a very strong Killester team. Coach Matt Hall says "When we played Killarney in the first part of the season we just didn’t turn up to play. Since Christmas we have been playing better basketball, yet at times our team game falls away and we allow the game to be lost, and that is not our strength. Killarney are a strong physical team and unless we defend and get stuck in we won’t have a chance. I am telling the players all week that we must get in it from the start and then work hard to stay in it until the last few minutes. That way we have a chance of getting a result." Limerick are away the following weekend to UUJ up in Belfast, and have a reverse fixture with Killarney on Sun 24th Feb at home in UL, at 3.30pm. |

Limerick Lions men’s basketball host Ballina at the UL Sports Arena on Sat 5th Jan 2008 at 7.30pm. This game kicks off the 2008 half of the SuperLeague for Limerick, in a season that Limerick need to improve upon with 10 games to go to the qualifiers. Limerick can still make the qualifiers but will need to win most of their remaining games to do so. Ballina visited UL shortly before Christmas and came away with nothing. This is the 3rd meeting of the teams in this year’s SuperLeague with Limerick having won the two previous encounters. Limerick will need a top drawer performance to turn Ballina over a third time, and Coach Matt Hall says "We have had two really close games with Ballina, and both have been essentially ‘one score’ games, with one score deciding the final outcome. I believe Saturday’s game will again be close, and will go to the team that comes best prepared to play for the 44 minutes. I am looking forward to another competitive, close game of basketball". |
