Limerick Lions travel to Killarney. 09/Feb/08 PDF Print E-mail
Limerick Lions men’s basketball travel to Killarney to take on Mustang St Paul’s in the Nivea for men Super league.
Limerick have not had a consistent run in the league this season, and came off second best last weekend against a very strong Killester team.
Coach Matt Hall says "When we played Killarney in the first part of the season we just didn’t turn up to play. Since Christmas we have been playing better basketball, yet at times our team game falls away and we allow the game to be lost, and that is not our strength. Killarney are a strong physical team and unless we defend and get stuck in we won’t have a chance. I am telling the players  all week that we must get in it from the start and then work hard to stay in it until the last few minutes. That way we have a chance of getting a result."
Limerick are away the following weekend to UUJ up in Belfast, and have a reverse fixture with Killarney on Sun 24th Feb at home in UL, at 3.30pm.

Limerick Lions host Ballina -Sat 5th Jan 2008 PDF Print E-mail
ImageLimerick Lions men’s basketball host Ballina at the UL Sports Arena on Sat 5th Jan 2008 at 7.30pm. This game kicks off the 2008 half of the SuperLeague for Limerick, in a season that Limerick need to improve upon with 10 games to go to the qualifiers. Limerick can still make the qualifiers but will need to win most of their remaining games to do so.
Ballina visited UL shortly before Christmas and came away with nothing.  This is the 3rd meeting of the teams in this year’s SuperLeague with Limerick having won the two previous encounters. Limerick will need a top drawer performance to turn Ballina over a third time, and Coach Matt Hall says "We have had two really close games with Ballina, and both have been essentially ‘one score’ games, with one score deciding the final outcome.  I believe Saturday’s game  will again be close, and will go to the team that comes best prepared to play for the 44 minutes. I am looking forward to another competitive, close game of basketball".

Basketball National Cup Quarter Final in Limerick PDF Print E-mail

7.30pm, Saturday 8th Dec, 2007 UL Sports Arena
Limerick Lions meet Dublin team UCD Marian in the quarter final of the National Cup in the UL Sports Arena at 7.30pm, Sat 8th Dec 2007. The quarter final games in the national cup are always close affairs as the prize on offer is live national TV at the semi final stages. The game at UL will be a close and tense affair where Limerick Lions will want to push home advantage in their favour.

Both teams will come to win and cup clashes tend to bring out the best in teams. In cup games the winning team takes all off course as the losers have to wait for next season to get another crack at the cup. Limerick are experiencing one of those ‘unsettling’ seasons, and have had to make a few changes to their overseas personnel. New signing from New York Jenar Harrison now has a game behind him and a full week to get ready for the cup clash with UCD.

Limerick coach Matt Hall says "Cup quarter finals are big games for clubs, they probably don’t come any bigger. I would like to think that home advantage will help us, but I also realise that UCD will travel down to Limerick with the intention of winning. We will need to be focused and concentrate for the full game to have a chance of winning the game.  I have been pleased with our performances in the last few games and our Irish players have been doing quite well. However, every Limerick player will have to step up a few gears on Saturday night to give us any prospect of getting a win. UCD will be tough, no doubts, we will have to be tougher, that’s it.

A big crowd is expected at the UL Sports Arena for this national cup quarter final which tips off at 7.30pm, Saturday 8th Dec, 2007.

Limerick plan to to settle team PDF Print E-mail

UL Sports Arena:   Sat 1st Dec 2007  7.30pm

Limerick Lions will be working hard to establish a ‘settled’ team ahead of the clash with Kilarney at the UL Sports arena on Sat 1st Dec at 7.30pm.

Limerick were disappointed by the move by Justen Naughten to Spain last week which left Limerick traveling to Dublin to play Hoops with one American player. Limerick put in a great performance in Dublin and were only caught coming down the stretch by a superb shooting performance from Ian O’Boyle.

Limerick will be aiming to have a replacement American ready to play against Killarney, and coach Matt Hall is spending the week preparing his charges for the game and planning to build on the positives from the Hoops game.

Limerick Lions at Home to Neptune

Saturday 10th November 2007 - 7.30pm - UL Sports Arena

Limerick Lions men’s basketball do battle with visitors Neptune at the UL Sports Arena on Saturday 10th Nov with a 7.30pm start. Both teams have had mixed starts to the Nivea for Men Super League and both will be eagerly chasing the win on Saturday night.

Limerick are searching for some consistency in their on court performance in the early part of the season. Last weekend they travelled the long journey up the country to Jordanstown in Belfast and were disappointed with their performance in a game that Belfast Star won with a strong last quarter. Limerick will again rue getting into foul trouble early in the 4th quarter which opened the door for a confident Star to finish them off.
