Limerick Lions, with a strong defensive performance, overcame Star on a score line of 103 to 86 on Saturday night in Limerick.

Limerick set a determined defensive tone right from the start and made Star work hard for every score. Limerick were also taking a good percentage of their scoring opportunities and established a 28 to 19 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter some good perimeter shooting by Star kept the game tight and Lions had a 5 point advantage at half time 48 to 43.

Limerick continued their intensity in the second half and with good rebounding at both ends of the court they kept Star’s scoring opportunities to a minimum. The game finished with Star in team foul trouble as the clock was against them. Limerick kept hitting the free throws and eased out to a 103 to 86 win.

For Star, Summersgill, Washinghton, Ross, Toner and Dawson played well. Limerick had big performances from Powell, Jennings, Lynch, King and Campbell, with good support from Myles, Wojialik and O’Sulllivan.
