Its that time of year again, the Superleague is here, and Limerick Lions are ready to roar. The Limerick Lions senior men’s basketball team for the 2007-08 season is: Neil Campbell, Stephen King, Robert Lynch, Paul O’Sullivan, Mike Dowd, Aidan Holden, Mark Considine, Renars Uzraugs, Damian Lenkiewizc, Kiah Thomas, Thomas Davis, Aidan O’Brien, Matt Hall
 The team coach for the coming season is Matt Hall, now in his sixth year with Limerick. The assistant coach is Paul Kennedy, and team manager is John King.
Limerick are building a team with a nice blend of youth and experience. There is a solid base of local Limerick players including Neil Campbell, Stephen King, Rob Lynch, Aidan Holden and Aidan O’Brien.
The Irish base is further complemented with players at UL including Paul O’Sullivan, Shane Freeman and Mike Dowd. Joining from overseas is Mark Considine, an experienced player who comes in from Spain. Kiah Thomas, a US college player with Old Dominion, comes in from West Virginia. Thomas Davis, another US college player comes in from Louisiana State University
The balance of the squad is made up of 2 Eastern European players living in Limerick, Damian Lenkiewizc, originally from Poland, and Renars Uzraugs, riginally from Latvia.
 Limerick have had a solid pre season campaign and are keen to put together a competitive programme for the 2007-08 season. According to coach Matt Hall, “Limerick Lions are a relatively young side, especially in terms of experience at the top level. As well as getting more experience from taking part in this year’s national competitions, I want the team to be competitive in every game. We must play hard every time and by doing this we will build confidence in the team, and also gain support for the team.”
 Limerick Lions are working on a number of fronts to develop the club, and have an underage structure with teams from U10 up to U20 training and playing in various leagues and competitions. Limerick Lions are keen to build the club, and are looking forward to another season of basketball. The club is also taking an active part in the new licensing system currently being implemented by Basketball Ireland.
Limerick Lions play all their home games at the fantastic UL Sports Arena start their season on 6th October, away to Ballina.
The Lions have their first home game of the season on Saturday 13th Oct against St Vincents from Dublin with a 6pm start in UL. The Lions are home again the following Sunday week, 21st Oct, with a 3.30pm start against arch rivals UCC Demons. reporter J.Hoops. |
