The basketball game of the weekend saw Limerick Lions travel to Merry Monk Ballina on Saturday night.

Limerick Lions scored a dramatic opening win in the Nivea for Men’s Basketball Super League over Ballina on a score line of 85 to 84.

In a packed Ballina Basketball Complex Limerick showed a lot of character to come through with the one point win.
Limerick looked to be in trouble when they lost Irish International Stephen King to injury early in the third quarter and American Thomas Davis to foul trouble in the final quarter.
Rob Lynch then a hit a big 3-pointer to edge Limerick into a 1 lead which they held onto in a dramatic closing sequence.
The Limerick Lions had a massive team performance with everyone making big contributions on the night. Campbell, King, Lynch, O’Sullivan, Thomas, Davis, Lenkiewicz, and Considine  made it a good night for Limerick, Ronan McGarrity had had a big performance for Ballina, in a great game for the supporters of basketball.

Limerick Lions play their first home game of the new season next Saturday 13th October at 6pm in the UL Arena. DCU Saints provide the opposition.
