The SuperLeague Management Board have announced that the joint application of Limerick Lions and UL/Aughinish have been successful in their bid to host the 2008 League finals which will take place on the weekend of March 29/30. It’s the second successive year the finals have been held in the UL Arena. Limerick Lions PRO John King said: ”the awarding of the finals for the second year running is recognition of the high level of satisfaction from last year’s event. Some minor tweaking will be done to ensure repeated success again this year. We have a great relationship with UL/Aughinish and the University of Limerick Arena management and staff and the event is an example of how co operation between various parties and the availability of top class facilities can make things happen.” The University Arena, located in the University of Limerick campus, on the picturesque banks of the river Shannon, is one of Ireland’s largest indoor sports complex’s. Each year it caters for over 500,000 customers along with many international sports athletes and teams. With easy access from all major regions in Ireland, and with only Shannon International Airport only 25mins away, the University Arena is the ideal location for all your training and competition needs. Vice Chairperson of the SuperLeague Management Board, Paul Meany said: “We received some excellent submissions from a number of clubs but we have decided to opt for Limerick who have experienced hosting this event last year. The UL Arena boasts some fantastic facilities and we are looking forward to witnessing some top quality fare on the last weekend of March.” UL/Aughinish spokesperson Phil Deegan said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event for the second year running in the University Arena. Last years event was a great success but we plan on making it even better this year. The bonus for UL/Aughinish will be that they can earn their place in the Womens Super League Finals, which will ensure a strong local support.” UL Sports Arena Director Dave Mahedy is delighted that the finals was awarded to Limerick: “This is a great honour for the Arena, and once again we are supporting both local clubs in any way we can to ensure that it will be a huge success. To have hosted the event last year was tremendous, and to get it again this year is further testament to the regard there is for the excellent facility we have here in Limerick. “We are looking forward to welcoming all the participating teams and supporters to the Arena once again,” he added. |
