Limerick has made a number of changes in the off season. Sasa Punosevac comes in as coach to replace Matt Hall. This is part of a major linkup between Limerick Lions and UL Aughinish (WSL) as Sasa will coach both super league teams. Sasa is based in Limerick since mid September and is getting his teams ready for the upcoming competitions.

On the playing roster, Limerick are bringing in American Sean Coffey, and Canadian, Marlon Pompey. They will be complemented by two Europeans living in Limerick, Damian Lenkiewicz, and Felix Foster.

On the Irish playing side, last year’s core of Stephen King, Neil Campbell, and Mike Dowd are all available, and are joined by the return of Robert Lynch (injured last year), and the arrival of Scott Kinnevane, who was in the US last season. Tom Canavan, Aidan O’Brien, Aidan Holden, and underage players Andrew Dawson and Mark Paulauskas make up the rest of the Irish playing side.

Coach Sasa Punosevac is looking forward to his time in Limerick. He says “This is a new experience for me and a new challenge to coach in Limerick. When I came to Ireland first I had some big battles with Limerick and I am now looking forward to helping Limerick become a strong basketball club. We have a new team with new players, and we are a young team. We will go hard at training and we will play hard in games. The season is long and hopefully we will get the chance to show what we can do. I would like to also give some younger players the chance to gain experience at super league”.

Limerick’s first home game is Sat 11th Oct 2008, at 7.30pm in the UL Sports Arena, against Hoops.
