New Lions Coach Sasa in Action The Limerick Lions are delighted to announce the appointment of Sasa Punosevac as head coach for Limerick's Superleague side.
Sasa is a well regarded basketball coach in both his native Serbia and here in Ireland having most recently been head coach for the Irish Senior Women’s Team. Punosevac brings a hugely impressive CV to the role. He first rose to prominence as coach of Partizan Blegrade in the former Yugoslavian Superleague. He has since also coached Partizan U19s to two League titles and coached the U17 Yugoslavian Boys to European Championship glory in 1997. He has also coached DART Killester and Neptune, before taking the Irish job, so he is familiar with the league. On an interview with Limericks Live 95fm, Public Relations Officer John Buckley said, "We are delighted with Sasa, he will bring discipline to the team - a discipline that’s been missing the past few seasons". Sasa says he is "looking forward, we have a strong team and i want to win matches". He admits that league supremacy is not his objective for the year but is hopeful for a respectful league position and wants to do one better in the National Cup. Sasa is known to be a very passionate coach, in the past he has received a 2 match ban from Basketball Ireland for his sideline antics - but many will find Sasa to be a fun and colourful addition to the Lions match experience. |
