The Jungle Kings welcomed Shamrock Hoops to the University Arena this weekend in what was a close and exciting match up right from the get go. Hoops started off the first quarter and opened with an unanswered 7 point lead - the biggest lead during the whole game. Both sides toggled for control as the score board with Limerick looking, on a number of occasions, like it was theres to lose. However, the Hoops rallied around and in the end the Limerick Lions came up 4 points short in what can only be discribed as a tense and exciting Men’s Superleague game at the UL sports Arena. The story of the game is those four points as neither team opened up a lead above 4 points for the entire game. The game was close all the way through the first half and at half time the game was tied 38 to 38. Stephen King for Limerick and Jon Reed for Hoops shot well in this first half. The 3rd quarter was in the same vein, both sides shutting each other down and Limerick finished the quarter ahead by 2, on a score of 57 to 55. The final quarter was very tense and coming down the stretch it could have gone either way. Jon Reed penetrated the defence to get key scores for Hoops and they held their composure to close out with a four point win. Limerick had big scoring performances from Scott Kinevane with 25 points, and Stephen King on 16, and Sean Coffey on 14. Hoops had Jon Reed on 27, Clint Deas on 26 and Phil Taylor on 12. Earlier in the evening the Lions D1 got their first points of the new season with a well earned win over St Brendans at the UL Arena. |
