The North Munster Area Board organised a pre-season men’s tournament on the 16th & 17th October to give the lads a chance to shake off the cobwebs and get back on the court after a long 18 month lock down of our sport. The Lions Men’s team had a mix of experience and youth on its side and was well coached by Jason Barry.
The Lion’s team went into the final on Sunday on a winning streak, having beaten off challenges from a strong Warriors side, Limerick Lakers and Shannon Jets to name a few.
Lions met Limerick Celtics in the final and the game went basket for basket in the first quarter. But by half-time the score line had increased to 30-26 in Lions favour.
Despite some good strong baskets from Ruairi Cronin for Celtics, it wasn’t enough to stop the scoring machines of Ajay Ryan Walsh, David McCarthy and Jakub Czuba. The Lions took the game with a win of 57-36.
Tournament MVP honours went to Ajay Ryan Walsh having had a superb performance both offensively and defensively. Ajay is bound for Prep School in Philadelphia. The Lions will miss him but wish him all the best in his future basketball career.
Thanks to Paul Whelan and the North Munster Area Board for organising a great pre-season tournament!
