Limerick Lions U14’s play Titans in Galway

On Sunday 24th October a long 20 month wait to play a basketball match came to an end! Limerick Lions U14’s travelled to Galway to play Titans in a pre-season friendly.

The boys got off to a good start with a great lay-up from our newest Lion David Burke, who unfortunately came down on his ankle and was out for the remainder of the game. The game was basket for basket in the first half with super scores from Dylan O’Connell, Charlie Clifford, Jake Moore and Airidas Zalkaliskas.

One of the tall players from Titans was a scoring machine but was controlled very well in the second half by super defending from Daniel Dubrovka, who played some super basketball on both ends of the court.
Colm Price carried the ball very well giving some great assists. Ivan Boyko scored some crucial points on the free throw line having worked hard under the ring to grab rebounds.

A steal by Yahya Eltigani in the closing minutes of the game saw Lions finishing at full time in a tie. Eight minutes of extra time was played. Alex Toth worked very hard on defence, forcing jump balls and gained Lions good possession. Lucas Conway added some points to the tally but unfortunately it wasn’t enough with Titans taking the win 56-53.
A great way to blow away the cobwebs! Bring on the season!
